Nick Riley - Music Arranger

Nick Riley is thrilled to return to the design staff of Agency Indoor as the Music Arranger in 2018.  Nick was previously on the Agency design staff for the inaugural 2017 season as the Percussion Arranger.  Nick has been involved in the pageantry arts since 2003 as a performer, composer/arranger, educator, and judge.  

Nick holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where he studied music education with James Swearingen and Jim Dowdy; percussion with Bob Breithaupt, Nate Anders, and Eric Paton; and music composition with Dr. Dina Lentsner and Tony Zilincik.  Nick was a member of numerous ensembles while at Capital, including serving as Principle Percussionist for the top concert band, The Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. Barry E. Kopetz.  While earning his undergraduate
degree, Nick was a sought-after percussion arranger and educator for numerous band programs in central and southwestern Ohio.

In 2012, Nick was appointed as Director of Bands for Liberty Center Local Schools in northwest Ohio where he teaches all aspects of the band program, grades 5 through 12.  He also serves as the director of the marching band, pep band, and musical pit orchestra in addition to teaching courses in middle school general music and high school music appreciation.  Since his appointment six years ago, the band program at Liberty Center has doubled in size and seen great growth in quality.

In the winter months, Nick is heavily involved in the indoor percussion activity, serving as arranger, consultant, or staff member to numerous organizations across the country.  Most notably, Nick was co-founder of ConneXus Percussion and served as Ensemble Director and Front Ensemble Coordinator/Arranger from 2013 to 2015 and as a Music Consultant in 2016.  Nick is currently in his second season as the Logistics Coordinator and Front Ensemble Technician and also serves as the President of the ConneXus Performing Arts Association, Inc. Board of Directors.  ConneXus has established itself as a perennial WGI World Championships Finalist and WGI Regional Champion since its founding in the summer of 2012. 

Nick founded his composition and arrangement business, NPR Marching Concepts (www.nprmarchingconcepts.com), in 2008 and has since then written for or instructed over 50 ensembles nationwide.  In 2013, Nick presented a clinic on marching percussion arranging at the OMEA Professional Development Conference.  His music is also published by Gary P. Gilroy Publications and Marching Show Concepts. As a judge, Nick has judged music performance, music general effect, and percussion throughout Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana, and Tennessee as a member of the Central States Judges Association and the Ohio Music Education Association.  This winter, Nick is judging in several other circuits nationwide.

Recently, Nick has had the opportunity to work with some of the finest marching ensembles in the world.  Nick was Assistant Visual Caption Head for Legends Drum & Bugle Corps from 2011 to 2013, Front Ensemble Technician for Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps in 2014, and Visual Technician for Colts Drum & Bugle Corps in 2016.  Nick also served as a Percussion Consultant for The Ohio State University Marching Band from 2011 to 2014 and as a Percussion and Visual Technician for the Medellin Gran Banda of Colombia,
the 2014 DCI SoundSport World Champion.  In 2017, the Gran Banda returned to the United States, capturing Best In Class honors at the DCI SoundSport World Championships.  Also in 2017, Nick was appointed as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Columbus Saints Drum & Bugle Corps.  

Nick is proud to hold endorsements from Vic Firth, Sabian, Evans/D'Addario, and Black Swamp Percussion.  He is also a member of the Central States Judges Association, the Ohio Music Education Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Percussive Arts Society, and the American Society for Composers, Authors, and Publishers. Originally from Centerville, Ohio and a proud alumni of the nationally recognized band program at Centerville High School, Nick currently lives in Perrysburg, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo.

 

Blake Patton – Visual Designer/Visual Co-Caption Head

Blake is originally from Owensboro, Kentucky. Since 2008, Blake has been heavily involved in the marching arts. In 2013, he performed with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps from Nashville, Tennessee. He went on to perform with Spirit of Atlanta in 2014 and 2015 and served as section leader in his last year.

Aside from his performing career, Blake has been an active designer and educator for both indoor and outdoor ensembles across the country. He has worked with groups such as Cab Calloway School of the Arts, Murray High School, Mayfield High School, Reeths-Puffer High School, Greendale High School, and many more. He served on the Visual Staff at Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 and is currently serving on the Visual Staff at Music City Drum and Bugle Corps.

Blake attended Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky where he studied Graphic Design and Advertising.

 

Chad Thompson – Visual Designer/Visual Co-Caption Head

Chad has been heavily involved in the marching arts since 2008. A native of Murray, Kentucky, he recently aged out of the DCI activity as a 5 year member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Finally in his performance career, he marched with the Rhythm X Winds ensemble for the 2016 WGI season.

Outside of DCI, Chad is an experienced educator as well as a music and marching performer. After spending two years performing with the Murray State University Racer Band, Chad served the ensemble as Visual Field Technician for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. His other educational experiences include 5 years with the Calloway County marching band where he has served as visual caption head and field technician. Also in the 2016 and 2017 DCI season he worked at Legends Drum and Bugle Corps as a visual instructor.

Chad is currently a senior music education major at Murray State University with a focus on euphonium and conducting. Through his educational pursuits, he has conducted the university's wind ensemble, symphonic band and tuba-euphonium ensemble.

 

Rob Jett- Design Team Member/Consultant

Rob Jett grew up outside Nashville, TN, where he went to Western Kentucky University majored in Advertising. He currently resides in San Diego, California with husband, Carlos. Rob’s marching career began with Suncoast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps (1987-1989) and Magic of Orlando Drum & Bugle Corps (1990), as well as Alliance of Miami Winterguard (1988-1990), and San Jose Raiders (1991).

He has served as Color Guard Caption Head for Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps (2000-2002), as well as held positions as a technician/designer/consultant for several other organizations such as The Academy and Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps and just finished up his third season as Color Guard Co-Caption Head with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.

Rob has also worked with several winter guard programs such as the San Jose Raiders, Rancho Bernardo, The Academy, Ayala High School and currently with Diamond Bar High School, Fantasia and Fenix Independent Winterguards.
